Do you know yourself?

Do you know yourself?

Some persons are not generally comfortable with psychology and even views psychology as suspicious. They see it as practices where people try to manipulate them, mess up with their heads or seek to control their minds. No, psychology is not magic, and it is not “abracadabra”.

Simply put, psychology is the study of the mind and behaviour. It studies the mind, how it works and how it affects behaviour. As a matter of fact, the mind cannot be seen but thought processes, emotions and so on are observable through behaviour. So, psychology focuses on observable human behaviour and on its interaction with the environment.

What is common between education and psychology therefore is the role of observable behaviour which psychology seek to deal with by identifying questions and problems arising from its study and proffering solutions.

Socrates famously said, ‘man know thyself’. By so doing, a person is encouraged to identify and come to terms with not only their limitations but also their potentials, which can lay the groundwork for wholesomeness, success and fulfilment.

So, let me ask; “do you know yourself? How will you fulfil your potentials? What do you really want to accomplish?”

POINTS TO REMEMBER
